The Current to Kindness
It's the little things
that keep the current moving-
That help lift the silt from the bottom
and turn it into mountains to stand upon-
That propels us forward
with momentum-
It's the current of kindness
that gets us to our destinations,
keep it moving
so we can go on. . .

Put me on the list. 25 is a daunting number to me, but I will try my best (besides, if I have all of you to encourage me, I can do it).

Just a quick question - can it be for a charity or charities someone already donates to, or is that considered cheating?

I saw this on Dianne's blog and you can count me in! I am - sadly - not a terrifically handy person, but I can cross stitch.

What about other non-tangible charity donations? Like volunteering?

Great initiative, and I'm happy to be a cog in the wheel!

Great idea, count me in! I've already crocheted some items for the Snuggle project, Squares 4 Survivors, and my own similar idea of making winter hats for families in need to donate to my church. It's nice to make it official!

Hi Cindy,
I think this is a great idea. I don't know exactly how it works, but this is what I have in mind. I own a cross stitch shop in the Netherlands and would like to stitch 25 scissor fobs over the next year. Then in November I will put them up for auction, both in the shop and on the website and will donate the profits to a Dutch charity (I have yet to decide which one that'll be). Would that be within the spirits of this group?

Hi - I was already doing some knitting for a couple of charities - this site will help keep me motivated and counting!

I am looking, though, for some sewing patterns for hats for chemo/radiotherapy patients. Can anyone help me out with some pattern links. I have just spent a couple of hours on the net searching link after link and have 2 patterns - neither of which really does anything for me! That two hours could be better spent with needles in my hands, so if anyone can shortcut the process for me, I would really appreciate it!

This is a wonderful idea! I lead a group of 25 women locally and another 25 across the country who knit and crochet for people served by the North Park Friendship Center, a food pantry serving over 3000 of the neediest of the needy on the northwest side of Chicago. Our group is called Crafty Angels, and last year we made over 2000 hats, scarves, mittens, shawls, blankets, and baby things which were distributed to the Friendship Center's families. Our goal this year is to make over 3000 items, and I think we are well on our way.

Using your special gifts for those in need is indeed special, because it benefits not only the recipient of your handcrafted gift, but also you. God not only commands us to care for the less fortunate, but He also says that he will bless those who bless others. Doing something that gives you joy, and will ultimately bring joy to others, is just a win-win all around!

Thank you for starting this blog - it is great to get new ideas! I'd like to join up!

My friend recently lost her only daughter who was 12years old in a pedestian accident. I am wondering if anyone would be interested in a project of making a quilt with some of her favorite clothes. Her ambition was to be a fashion designer. I think it would be something her mother could have to cherish.
Thanks

Hello,

It's funny, we have a community that started on livejournal and is now moving over to blogspot as well, and in a lot of ways it's very similar to your idea.

We started our community (originally called 3000in2007) at the end of 2006. We set the goal of making 3000 items as a community in 2007 to honor the 3000 US soldiers who had died in Iraq. Like in your community, you can make whatever you want and donate it to whichever charity, but instead of individual tallies (which is neat!), we are tallying as a community.

I'd like to join your community if you'll have me, but am also wondering if you and some of your folks might want to check us out.

You can find us at craftingforacause.blogspot.com.

Thanks!

I have been thinking about crocheting scarves and hats for distribution by the Salvation Army in colder climates.

I was looking around for simple children's hat designs and found this site. I just signed up for the newsletters and hope to contribute.
