25!

I finished 25 things in 2005! Here is a look at what I have made...

#20
Skinny and airy
This scarf is two Red Heart scarp colors I had knit on US 13 needles to make it nice and airy.

#21
Lovely Soft Blue
This is Chenille in a lovely light blue.

#22
Blues and Cream scarf
This is an very long scarf (about 7 feet) in all Red Heart yarns. I really like the tassles on this one.

#23
Brown Wool Hat
This hat was meant to be an adult sized hat but somehow when it was finished it became a child sized hat. It is brown virgin wool and navy blue wool.

#24
Cream Hat
This is an adult sized hat in Chunky USA knitted on US 11 needles.

#25
crochet woolease scarf
this scarf is was a work on my crochet stitches in navy fleck woolease.

Just checking in and update

It looks like I may be adopting my nephew's Marines in Iraq to send rosaries to. We talked about it while he was home on leave and he brought back a rosary to show to the chaplain there. We've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to hook up with him since he's been back in Iraq, so we haven't worked out the details yet.

Last 22 Katrina Kits Sent

Isabelle and I have had a minor disagreement. (Can you believe dear, sweet Isabelle would argue with one of her elders? :)) She said I should post this picture because I filled the bags even though I didn't make any seen here. I said SHE should post it and mention that she made the black floral one with a white heart embroidered on it (upper right side, hanging from spindle). Anyway, 20 of these were made by the French seamstresses that she contacted via her French blog. The Star Wars/Buzz Lightyear bag was made by my friend Donna. Beanie Babies and stuffed animals were dontated and I picked which one would go in each bag. (Fun!) Of course the animals
were not packed in the ziploc bag inside; we didn't want any to suffocate, but just to stay warm en route! (Those FedEx trucks aren't climate controlled except for perishable foods.) Anyway, since there are no rules on this blog, I guess there's not a rule for who takes credit for what because, "we're just trying to accomplish something here", right? Well, accomplish we did. Thanks to my American friends and relatives--Paul (my patient hubby) Stephen (my 14 year old who sewed a couple bags and carried a LOT of boxes and helped me shop for oodles and skads of Dollar Tree itemsRose (who made about 50), Sarah (my 16 year old) who was my third arm in this project and kept us organized; 10 year old triplets in our homeschool group: Emily, Danielle, Drew; and all the French seamstresses (named in a post below). To God be the glory for all of this. It was His idea and His grace that motivated and sustained us for 12 weeks.

Happy Holidays

If my count is accurate, there are now 46 of us involved in this project. Wonderful! The "things" you have made are fantastic. I have enjoyed looking at all of them.

For those of you who feel you are behind - remember you have 12 months to complete your 25 things. Also, it is up to you to decide what counts as an item. This is not supposed to be an added pressure on your life. Relax and do what you can.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday season,
Cindy

First post and Donations

Hi all! Im Khourtniey, single mother of two boys, living in Arkansas. I joined a few weeks ago, but was a little busy cos my youngest was in the hospital. Since then, I donated my first few things and am just now getting around to putting them up.

My first Donation was these 6 hats. They went to the NICU where my son was a few months ago.

And the second is a Gown that also went to the NICU. I am sorry, but it was not finished in this picture and I did not get a picture of it finished before I donated it. I just added some sleeves to it, so there really isnt much missing from the picture. And I apologize about the poor quality of the picture, tho one of my friends did fix it a bit.

Jolly Green Blanket #18

green blanket WTW
Click Jolly Green to see more WTW projects

Above is my 18th project for WTW. It is a 36 inch square that would be a nice baby blanket or a lap blanket. Not quite sure of the yarn but it seems a lot like Red Heart in a nice Christmas green. It is knitted on US 10 circulars in increases and decreases (start off with two stitches then increase until 3 entire skeins are used then decrease one stitch every row until I get back to two stitches). It is also another thing to check off my break list.

items 9-15

Sorry no pictures of the hats which are items 9-14, but here is a picture of some of what counts as my item 15: some of the goodies that my daughter and I purchased for that little girl undergoing chemo and her sisters too, so they wouldn't feel left out. I'm counting all the presents as one "thing" and each of the half dozen hats I made her as one thing.

I wish I could've taken pictures of the hats but I was in a time crunch to get them packed up and the webcam won't work without daylight. I used my own patterns though and made her a Princess Sarina tiara Beanie, a "kitty cap", a "Little Flower" and a Ro's Ruffles (all patterns on my website) and then just made a couple off the top of my head too. I used simply soft brites for the tiara beanie and cotton tots for the ruffles, and I think regular simply soft and TLC baby for the rest, I wanted them to be extra soft.

I'll be taking a break to get my strength back so probably won't post here again until the holidays are over...so happy holidays everyone and see you in '06!

2 Afghans to donate

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This is my first post here, I am known as Nashville Crocheter on Crochetville and Barbaras on other forums. I noticed there is already a Barbara here. :)
The yarn was donated to our local Linus Project and they gave me a huge green trash bag full of yarn to make afghans with. :) The Linus Project here gives a blanket, quilt or afghan to children in foster homes so they will have something to take with them and call their own.

A BIG welcome to Barbara!!!

Donations to Home Front, Trenton, NJ

Sorry, no pictures-I've been too sick, but I did finally get together a box of scarves I made for charity for my husband to drop off to Home Front in Trenton, NJ. This non-profit helps find placement and housing for homeless families.

I was able to send out a child's scarf, two adult scarves and a hat and matching scarf set for a woman. Hopefully by January, when things get better with me, I can start really working on hats I had planned to make. My husband works in that area and will drop off the donations in person.

Happy Holidays all!

Items 5 - 9

I am completely taken with the Addison Hat by Julie A. Bolduc. I've made TONS of them using Red Heart Holiday yarn to give as gifts, and made 5 extra to add to my charity pile.

hats

Another set for China

Two more "things" (numbers 7 and 8 in case you were wondering!) that are going into the box now with the other set and off to Lisa to send to China.

My next mission...I got a note via email about a local child who is struggling with chemo and hates her wig...her aunt asked if I could make some hats and she'd pay me for them...as if! I told her that I would gladly make a wardrobe of hats for the little sweetie if it might make her smile. So I'm also gonna pick out some little things at Target today to send along...the poor kid got sick and missed the children's hospital holiday party, how unfair is that! Broke my heart. So I think that Santa will tell her what a brave girl she is and send her some surprises.

Stay tuned and happy crafting people!

3 Sweaters For Charity

They're done! I made these cute little sweaters for a good deed that Holly is doing for the children of China. You can read all about her efforts here at Crochetville. The pattern is Baby It's Cold Outside by Julie Holetz. I used LB Homespun for all three sweaters. This makes items 8, 9, and 10 out of 25 things for charity in my book.

Things 5 and 6, for Lisa to send to China

A cape of my own design to go to China, and a matching hat. I made this with little arm holes so that the child could wear it over their coat or any other clothing they may have, and have a way to poke their arms out when they needed to but room to tuck them inside when they wanted to for extra warmth. Velvet Spun in white makes soft, cozy trim.

Am hurrying to finish a boy's poncho too to send hopefully with a hat as well, want to mail them out soon so they'll make Lisa's end of the month shipment to China.

Happy Holidays Everybody!

About 75 Things for Charity

Here's the avalanche of Katrina Kits I've been talking about.
About 75 or 80 here, no two alike. And to think I only made two in this whole bunch!
Thanks, Isabelle,Severine, Marie-Laure, Bernadette, Olivia, Eric, Doris, Denise, Christiane and Sarah...and who else? I think I forgot one.:(

Things 5 and 6 for Charity (Katrina Kits)

I finished these 2 Katrina Kits for men for the shipment I'm sending to Baruch HaShem Congregation in San Antonio. They have received 153 bags from us so far, and I have about another 70 boxed and ready to go tomorrow. Baruch HaShem is handing out these Katrina Kits plus Bibles to Katrina survivors at Kelly USAF base. I couldn't have done this without the help of Isabelle and 9 of her blogging/sewing friends who have been so generous in making 126 of these bags!

Two Caps

Two more caps and some other items going to Lisa (will mail tomorrow).

The left one was knit using Bev's Basic Cozy Cap pattern. The one on the right is crocheted - double stranded yarn - no pattern. I used Lion Brand's Wool Ease for both.

I also found these at Walmart:

I thought these would be good items for the kids.

Santa Sacks

Here are our completed, filled Santa Sacks. I will deliver them to the nursing home in just over an hour, after the kiddies are in bed. I made 7 this year, but next year I will know what I'm doing and we'll make more. Our kids will be old enough next year to dress up as Santa's helpers (here, they are called Zwarte Piet) and we can deliver them directly to the recipients on Sinterklaas day (5 Dec.). We're going to make it a new family tradition! The bags are filled with socks, scarves, puzzle books (crosswords and the like), stationary & stamps, mints, and chocolates. Not every bag has everything in it, but all bags have most of it. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture - tomorrow our Nikon goes in for long overdue repairs.

More things!

Just finished things 3 and 4 for the count here...both going again to Sunbeam Kids in South Africa.

First one (can't tell the color from the picture) is a lavendar fleece blanket that I got at Joann; super cute kitten applique! I edged it with crochet in white, it came out gorgeous. Also sending the bootie and hat set along. I bought as well two little stuffed animals that were so adorable holding their own little blankies and a bunch of boxes of crayons, because they said they can always use art supplies...can't wait to ship them off tomorrow, I hope they make it for the party on the 15th!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Number 16!

candy cane
Click "Candy Cane" to see more WTW projects

Here is my latest scarf which was inspired from a candy cane but after I finished it I thought to myself is it a candy cane or a "Cat in the Hat" scarf? Either way it will find a home from someone at WTW.
