Cotton Chemo Cap

One more cap for Roswell Institute.

Small package to Mongolia

Hello Strangers,

My life is far too busy to do as much charity knitting as I would like. I am taking the Texas Bar exam at the end of July, so I have little knitting time. I am, however, managing to knit a few things for charity.

On Monday I set a child's hat and neck gaiter to the Dulaan project. I am now knitting a hat for Afghans for Afghans and hope to send a few hats to them for a July 21 deadline. At first, I felt discouraged; I will be lucky to send 2 hats. But then I realized that was hats for 2 children who might not get a hat otherwise. Every little bit...

I am inspired by everyone's generosity. I plan to knit much more for charity after July.

Items 5 & 6 for the Virades de l'Espoir

Hi everyone,

Here are my 5th and 6th items for the Mucoviscidosis charity sale in France.
I've reached my goal of making an item a week until the end of June.
A friend of mine is also cross-stitching squares for the Virades sale: she will send them to me in a few weeks, so I can finish them into little bags, wallhangings or pillows, and then send them to the lady who'll sell all these. This is really fun and I hope we'll raise lots of money for the children!

"Rainbow over Romania" Quilt Finished

It's taken me way longer than I'd planned to get this quilt (item #17 in my count) from A-Z, so to speak (A being the design choice, Z being final mailing. Taking the picture is point Y,then, right?) Last week I had just to finish putting "John 3:16" on the back when I had to buy more floss. I bought ModPodge (glue) for a separate project at the same time, and somehow the ModPodge lid came off in the bag on the way home, and got all over my floss. This quilt will travel as such: from my home in Maryland to Colorado where Warm the World will receive it, send it to Texas, and some kind teen from Teen Mania will take it in his or her suitcase to a Romanian orphanage in July.

I have learned much from sewing this, my first quilt for charity:
1) I love making lap quilts.
2) I love knowing this blankie will go to a child who is cold.
3) I enjoy praying for the unknown recipient.
4) I shouldn't have used fleece as batting. Too stretchy. Oh well, at least it's warm.
5) I will always include a rainbow or use allusions of the rainbow in future charity quilts (universal symbol of hope from God).
6) Even small projects take longer than you think!

Click to enlarge picture. No, don't! You'll see where my corners didn't all meet perfectly! The purple cell phone fabric is such soft flannel, I wish you could feel it. In the future I want to use various textures--silks, corduroy, flannel-- since kids love that tactile pleasure. I've heard "use only cotton" but I'm up for a challenge if it means a quilt might double as a toy! Any warnings from good seamstresses about my intentions to "mix" textures?

Number 17 Rad Bad Beanie Project

Six hats ready to put in the mail to send for the Rad Bad Beanie project. I needed to do some serious stash busting and I wanted to try a little intarsia. The hats in the bottom row were made with yarn that I dyed with Kool-Aid as part of the Dye-O-Rama swap. Great fun and bright and cheery colors.

:o)

Item 15

I think I may have just made something that qualifies as "cool". This skully is for one of my crochetville friends who's son is going through chemo. It's already on it's way to it's new owner :)

My First Post and My First "Thing"

Project Linus QuiltMy local quilt shop collects unfinished quilt tops for Project Linus. Then, several times a year, they have a "quilt in" where people volunteer their time to finish all the donated quilt tops. This is a quilt top I made entirely of fabric in my stash. Project Linus always seems to be in need of quilts for boys, so I gave this one a camping/fishing theme. There are lots of prints with cabins, bears, fish, etc. It's rather busy, but I didn't have any solid fabrics in my stash to compliment the prints. I like to think that a little boy would appreciate all the business, anyway. There's lots to look at!

2 more

Been doing a lot for family members, but got two more charity items done today. The blue chemo cap will go to the pediatric unit at Roswell Cancer Institute and the Preemie Dress is for a request from the Hearts and Hands group. It will go to a new mom and her tiny little girl.

Dumbo flies!

Here is my circus square for Cross Stitching for Charity - finally! I had a hard time filling this one up, but by borrowing from DMC patterns, online freebies, knitting patterns, and my own imagination I eventually came up with this, which I hope will make a child very happy. My kids certainly liked it!

Still out here!

Hi everyone! I'm still alive! LOL Been finishing out my 25 things with blankies for the PC Lovies drive for the Children's Center at Pass Christian, MS. These kids lost everything in Katrina and a great group of ladies from C'ville helped make my daughter's dream of sending blankets for each of them come true, and then some! We ended up overshooting our goal and sending nearly 60 blankies! Everybody was just fantastic.

Sorry I don't have time to post pictures right now, but you can see them at this page temporarily (www.onesmallthing.org/pclovies.html) my blankets for this complete my 25 things for this year. I plan to make lots more but prolly won't blog about em. I'm in the process of moving my websites and patterns to blogger (too expensive to keep my old webspace now) and so if you can't access those sites don't worry, the important things will be back it'll just take a little while.

Hope everyone enjoys finishing out their things!

hugs

Items 1 to 4 for the Virades de l'Espoir

Hi everyone!
The "Virades de l'Espoir" ("races for hope") will be held all over France next September, to draw funds for children with Mucoviscidosis. Among the various activities (besides the charity races), hand-crafted items shall be sold at a charity bazaar in Southern France. All the money from that sale shall be devoted to research.
Early in May, I pledged to make one item a week for this sale until the end of June. I plan to make some more after that deadline, but I'm not sure how many I'll be able to make.

Here are those for the first four weeks:
(you can click on the pictures to get bigger shots)

1 lace doily and 2 Sunbonnet wallhangings

1 purse

The only rule is to make items that should sell well!

Number 16 Dulaan Project

There is still time to send your donations for the Dulaan Project but I wanted to get mine into the mail early. At times I think mail from the cornfields of Ohio to anywhere seems to take weeks. This is the first time I have contributed to this worthy cause, but it is on my radar for next year with an even bigger donation.

I shipped off a box with 6 hats and a pair of mittens. The yarn on the right hand side is worsted weight that I dyed myself using KoolAid as part of the Dye-O-Rama swap.
