I made this afghan today in only about 4-5 hours thanks to the Edgery Doo. I hope to donate it to Project Rest Assured.

Another Shawl Ready to Mail!
What I've done quite a bit of lately is stash-pruning, and donating or sending the yarn to groups that do charitable knitting. I helped a friend clean out her house (she's moving to a retirement community) and all of her yarn, tools, and about 40 crocheted blocks have gone to South Dakota for the XRX prison project. I've sent a box of yarn to CT for the SM knitters, and gave four bags full to a friend here who passed them along to her Senior Citizens' knitting group, which makes lots of shawls, afghans, and baby items for local charities.
So even though I haven't been able to do much myself, I do feel as if I'm helping out a little by "enabling" others to do more!
A few pairs of baby booties completed
Hello everyone,
When a friend asked for help I could not resist jumping in... She needs baby booties, as well as many other items, for newborn kits. As soon as I was done reading my e-mails, I sat down and crocheted 6 pairs of booties in, I would say, about 24 hours. :o) The pattern I used was based on the one you can find on the Patterns by Dot's website (http://patbythehook.blogdrive.com ), under Child's Ribbed Slippers. I modified the pattern to fit what I felt like making. Now I simply have to add the last-minute details, wash the batch and package it to for send-off. I love it when I'm able to finish a project quickly.
Now, I'm off to make a prayer shawl on my knifty-knitter to show off at our weekend convention.

Item #4
Here is my 4th item for charity - another pair of children's socks. These are made from Opal yarn, and they are fraternal twins:
I was afraid of running out of yarn and not being able to complete the pair, but as you can see in the picture, there is a little bit left. Anyway, I think they look funky, and I hope that some little girl will like them.Friday, April 20, 2007
25 things promoted
Hey all,
I gave you guys a mention along with Crafting for a Cause over at the Mary Read Knit-Along. I figure since folks are going to be crafting for charity they might want to give these 2 groups a look. Similarly, I think the KAL blog is most righteous. If you haven't checked it out, give it a look-see. There are some neat things going on there.

Deadbeat Crafters?
I haven't posted for a long time. Nor have I made much headway toward 25 for the calendar year. Just curious. Where do you send deadbeat members? Do we need counseling? Handholding? A kick in the charitable pants?
What about those of us who mooch of the charitable donations of others? I stand guilty. Just after the deadly Florida tornadoes, I filled a bunch of leftover Katrina Kits and sent about 25 down there. Maybe two were my creations; the rest were from overseas when they sent 126 here right after Hurricane Katrina.
I've been busy raising funds for a mission trip to Russia with my graduating daughter. We go in June. Till then, please know I read and enjoy this blog regularly, tho' I remain a deadbeat and wonder if I'm the only one?

Hokies
I just wanted to let everyone know, that there are a few groups that are making things for the VT Survivors. For those of you are on LJ *Live Journal*
On Lj: 3000in2007 Crafting for Hokies. They are making squares in VT colors and putting them together for a blanket. I'm sure whole blankets or just squares will be appreciated.
Same Community posted this... and a blog here on Blogger Mary Read Memorial Scarf KAL/CAL

Crafting for Hokies
Hi everyone,
I hope this post is okay...
Crafting for a Cause (Craftingforacause.blogspot.com) is working on a project tied to the recent tragic events at Virginia Tech. We have been making squares and one of our members has been sewing them together to make blankets for Warm Up America. For a little while, we are going to be making maroon and yellow squares and will be donating blankets of those colors to Warm Up America. The afghans will be 8 rows of 4 squares across, with each square measuring 12 x 12.
If you want to learn more, or if you want to participate, please look for details at our blogspot blog or at community.livejournal.com/3000in2007.
Thanks!

Almost at 25
I just finished 22 items! Most of them are preemie sized hats, in fact I just posted a pattern on my blog of the most recent hat. Number 22 is a scarf for Knit Your Bit Yeah, I know it's spring (really???) but with the cold weather still hanging on it's still helpful.

I've been knitting 25+ scarves and hats for local charity Food & Friends for two or three years now so it would be great to virtually connect with other charitable knitters.

Number 5 for 2007
I tend to count a group of things as my 25 for Charity for the year. Yikes..I am only at number 5 and it is April. These bibs are destined for Planned Parenthood Maremonte. They are used as an incentive for pregnant moms to take care of themselves while they are pregnant.
Knitted hats and socks seemed a little warm for summer babies so I switched to bibs.
#12 - #20
Finally made it to the post office, so I can finally count these towards my total. (Making that my rule is the only way I get motivated to pack a box and get it sent off!!) The afghan is for Soldiers' Angels. The first picture doesn't show it very well due to the variegated yard. The second picture shows a little bit what it really looks like. The hats are for the Rad Bad Beanie Project to provide a hat for the at-risk teens that are out mountaineering with Big City Mountaineers.

DEKALB REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
MY HUSBAND HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR SOME BLOOD WORK THIS TUESDAY. SO I TOOK A BURIAL GOWN AND BURIAL POUCH WITH ME TO SEE IF THEY COULD USE THEM. I WAS TOLD THEY USE PAPER LIKE THINGS FOR THE BABIES. WELL THAT BROKE MY HEART. I LEFT THE TWO THINGS I HAD WITH ME AND I TOOK THESE EIGHT THINGS THE NEXT DAY. GOD WILLING THEY WILL NEVER USE PAPER THINGS AGAIN. MY FRIENDS AT RAINBOW CROCHET ARE ALREADY CROCHETING. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY USE ABOUT FIVE THINGS EVERY THREE MONTHS. I'M SURE WE CAN HANDLE THAT. I FEEL BAD THAT I HADN'T ALREADY ASKED ABOUT THE BEREAVEMENT ITEMS. I JUST STARTED MAKING THEM AROUND THE END OF LAST YEAR. I HAD ASKED A LONG TIME AGO ABOUT PREEMIE HATS. THEY DIDN'T NEED THEM BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KEEP THE BABIES THERE. THEY WERE TAKEN TO A BIGGER HOSPITAL. I ALSO DONATED THEM IN THE NAME OF EMMAZING GRACE FOUNDATION. IN MEMORY OF LITTLE EMMA GRACE.

Items #10 & #11
I realized this morning that I haven't posted over here since February. I have been working on a few items for charity, though, over the past 2 months. I finished a baby blanket that I am thinking about sending to Project Linus. I may try to finish one more blanket and send both together. I used Lion Brand Pound of Love, a K hook and the sedge stitch.
I also made a hat and scarf set for my guild's yearly Salvation Army donation in December. I will add a pair of strechy gloves to complete the set. I used Simply Soft Shadows in the pearl frost colorway and came up with the pattern for both on my own. This is the 3rd set I have completed this year.
So that makes 11 items so far this year for charity. Next up, my crochet guild is collecting preemie blankets for our local hospital, and I have 2 currently on the hook that I need to finish up.

20 so far for 2007
I mailed off 6 scarves in January for the Red Scarf project for the Orphan Foundation of America.
This month I mailed off 12 hats, 1 pair of baby booties, and 1 pair of thrummed mittens to the Dulaan project.
I have a few more things in the works but I'm not sure where they are going yet. Once I decide I'll post the pics and info.

Hello!
Firstly, thanks for the invitation! Right now I cannot remember what blogpath lead me here, but I knew it was the one for me. I have been knitting for over twelve years and mostly knit for charity: CareWear and at times a local hospital I also volunteer at. I am at home now because I am not driving due to illness, and have alot of time to knit. Thinking of starting some fruit hats (those famous and fabulously cute ones from Ann Norling) that I think would be nice for spring. Also, if anyone has suggestions, I am open to them! I look forward to posting often. Happy Spring!
Hello everyone!
I found your fine group a couple of weeks ago, but apparently I was having a slow-brain day, because I wasn't able to find Cindy's e-mail that day, and hence I was not able to join. This past weekend I found Cindy's e-mail no problem. Go fig.
Anyway, as Cindy so very kindly mentioned, a friend of mine and I started up a group very similar to this one at the end of 2006. We started it over on livejournal, but last last month one of our members smartly recommended that we start up over here too. Because most of us are more experienced with livejournal, we're still not really sure how to "promote" our little group here at blogspot, so I decided to do some searching and see what other groups I could find. That's how I found all of you!
Our group, called crafting for a cause, is very very similar to this one, except instead of focusing on individual goals, we are tracking goals as a community. You can still make whatever you want for whatever charity you want. Just post a picture of your FO before you ship it off, and we add it to the group's tally. Our group goal for 2007 is 3000 items. It's a lofty and most probably an impossible goal to reach, but there it is. The number is based on the fact that 3000 US soldiers had died in Iraq when we started up the group.
Like with your group, there is no politics, no judgment on what charities you send to, nothing like that. We are pretty darned laid back and just enjoy doing charitable crafting, like yourselves. Since you are all individually driven, I thought you might want to join forces with us. You would just keep doing what you're doing, but post in 2 places instead of one :)
I started a blog that is tracking my own contributions thus far...I believe if you go to ladybugnotes.blogspot.com you will find it...hopefully. I'll post my FOs here from now on as well.
If you want to join us, please check out craftingforacause.blogspot.com and/or e-mail craftingforacause@gmail.com
Thank you everybody. Sorry this message is so long! I'm very very happy to have found this group and look forward to participating, and maybe I'll see some of you at crafting for a cause as well :D

I knit comfort dolls to pack in with the medical supplies that I collect from local hospitals. I would like to find the pattern for a preemie jumper, dress or wrap, so that I can get my group going on those as well.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
