My First Post Here

I'm not sure what I should post for my first entry into your wonderful charity blog here. I'm kind of a newcomer to charity knitting, but I've gotten a lot done in a short time. But, only because of the help of my friends in the Knitting Help Forum. They have grabbed hold of my ideas, and turned them into reality.

Since February of 2007, we have made 5 fullsize blankets, 2 lapghans, 14 shawls, 36 baby blankets, and about 20 preemie baby blankets.

This month, we've started another lapghan, and have decided to make pet snuggles for animal shelters as well. For each project, one person casts on the number of stitches needed, and knits for a few inches, then keeps the knitting on the circular needle, and mails the entire project to the next knitter. Each person adds their own yarn, and starts knitting. It's fun!

Our large blankets and lapghans will be given to various charities, including orphanages and battered women's shelters. The baby blankets are going to children's hospitals. The shawls are given to fellow knitters that need our encouragement through difficult times. (death in the family, cancer treatment, etc.)

Here are some photos of our projects:

Operation Bag of Home News

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let you know that Operation Bag of Home has been undergoing some changes!

First, we now have a Ravelry group, moderated by yours truly. Wuwu!

Also, we have altered our approach a little bit. We are now working on "themed" bags with very specific lists of what each bag needs. We thought this might work a little better than just asking for "stuff" :)

There are chances to make homemade stuff too. We are looking for homemade 7x9 bags (sewn, knitted, crocheted, whatever)...hopefully with an easy to open closure like a drawstring. For bags intended specifically for female troops, we thought maybe some small hand-made hair doodads would be a nice touch. And we are totally open to other ideas as well.

Check us out either at ravelry or at http://community.livejournal.com/operationboh

Thanks everybody!
