I know this site is more for show and tell but I am just curious to know if anyone else is having the same problem as me.......
In the past you could buy a skein of yard and there was even directions printed on the wrapper of how to pull the one end out and then find the other end to begin your project and it would flow nice and smooth.......Now, I am having a hard time trying to find any end to start with and end up with this big ball of yarn that I have to work through just to get started. Anyone else having these problems? Any solutions you could offer?

The skein your are showing is more of a 'hank' that needs to be wound into a ball or a yarn cake.
If you take the wrapper off and untwist the yarn, you'll see it is in a circle. finding the end is usually as easy as finding the knot that ties the loop together.
Ball winders and swifts make this fast and easy: examples here: http://www.paradisefibers.net/Swifts-Skeiners-s/148.htm
but you can borrow a pair of hands and wind it into a ball yourself, too
Actually this isn't the kind of skein I have been using, I just wanted to have a picture. I use yard like from Jo Ann's but thank you for your help with this type..
